Selected Operating Systems and Video Platform Ideas for Pay-TV Operator STBs

Last updated since Sunday, October 13th, 2024.

It's been a year and a month now since I've been working on this project for pay-TV providers to have more choice for different STB middleware, but here it is right now.  So this post, I'll be listing out the operating systems for pay-TV operator set-top boxes and for custom set-top boxes that are also going to be used for pay-TV providers. Back when I remember the first time when I saw an Android TV box for paid-television that my local province had was from Telus back in 2017, which is called Telus Pik TV, it had apps from the Google Play Store and was certified with Netflix and I was fine with it. What I didn't like about Android TV Operator Tier is that some of the set-top boxes around the world didn't have Netflix, which is very disappointing. Another problem with Android TV Operator Tier is that it almost took up the entire pay-TV operator set-top box market in other countries outside of North America and Western Europe, especially in Asia, as many operators began to use Android TV as their #1 choice for their pay-TV provider.

So today, I'll be filling out all the operating systems and video platform solutions for the global pay-TV market to bring more choice between whether current video platform solutions are available such as Android TV, RDK, AOSP, and Linux, with my own ideas for newcomer video platform solution ideas, anyway, let's begin.
